High fashion solar system? This project is the convergence of science, mythology, and couture. Each celestial body is styled by incorporating its true color in synthesis with its respective mythological Greek deity. Through the visible light spectrum we can see the suns true color as a white ball of light. Mercury follows, the fastest god and the fastest orbit. The winged headpiece draws from the winged feet of the messenger god. Sandro Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” is the core inspiration for Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty. From the pose to the palette, we see the the goddess reach out to her lover, Ares, the god of war which is covered in muted tans and greys, just as the planet. Known as “the red planet” a strong red is found at the headpiece which inscribed on both sides in Greek, the names “Phobos” and “Deimos” the two moons of mars and the two twin children of Ares. With Earth, two rings, gold and silver, represent the moon and sun, both powers crucial for life, and adorned at the neck, a Navajo squash blossom, as Navajo tradition believes in the interconnectedness of the earth, and its people. Mother Earth, and Father Sky, the sun as the father, the moon as the mother, a reverence and worship of earth. And just beyond, the gas giants Jupiter, and Saturn, and the ice giants Uranus and Neptune. Neptune, who shares a true color to Uranus but incorporates a deep azure to balance truth with popular understanding. Pluto follows and revealed before our eyes is that which all exists within, space.
