MIA pharmacist @hillaryblackburn @talktoyourpharmacist on the CDC’s ACIP committee just helped vote to END the universal Hep B birth-dose recommendation. A vaccine that has protected newborns for decades and helped reduce pediatric hepatitis B by 99%.
There was no new safety data. No new evidence. Just a shift framed as “parental choice” that now makes it easier for babies to slip through the cracks and develop a lifelong infection that can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer.
And here’s the part no one is talking about: our own pharmacy organizations—ASHP (@ashpofficial ) and APhA (@aphapharmacists ) pushed for and celebrated the appointment of this pharmacist to ACIP. Now that this vote is tied directly to pharmacy representation, they owe the public transparency. And with my reach of over a million followers across all my platforms and no one to report to I’m done keeping quiet as someone who has and will always be an advocate for vaccines.

TH🚨 WHO SHOULD SHAPE VACCINE POLICY?
ICAN has submitted a letter to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. urging changes to the charter governing the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
According to ICAN attorney Aaron Siri, the HHS Secretary has clear authority to amend the charter and redefine what a truly independent and balanced advisory committee should look like.
ACIP is meant to serve as the final checkpoint before vaccines are recommended for universal use on the childhood schedule. With manufacturers shielded from liability and billions of dollars at stake, the committee’s role is supposed to be rigorous, skeptical evaluation of the evidence before products are recommended for millions of children.
The bigger question now:
Should the committee advising the CDC be restructured to ensure greater independence?

.... well it just happened in response to changes with the charter of the advisory committee on immunization practices- A committee that is supposed to be rooted in evidence and data, not ideology.
From the letter:
"“ACIP was established to provide evidence-based guidance on the use of immunizations to prevent diseases, but the revised charter paves the way for an unqualified committee to promote misleading narratives about vaccine safety. For decades, the committee held transparent discussions about vaccines based on patterns of disease, clinical trial and real-world data on efficacy and safety, and cost and implementation considerations. The new charter downplays the value of immunizations for both communities and individuals."

DORep. Frank Pallone @repfrankpallone appropriately called out the lie behind the “transparency” promises of RFK Jr.’s agenda. There’s nothing about it that has been transparent. He has side stepped experts, and sowed doubt on vaccinations ever since he was confirmed as HHS secretary. Let’s be clear, making his new ACIP re-litigate established science will not make him and his buddies credible, and it certainly does not make them “transparent.”

DOLots of very concerning statements from the head of #ACIP during his appearance on the @whyshoulditrustyoupod. If we move to a person first model with the hope that an individual can determine their own risk, we must understand that risk is an ever changing variable and as diseases return, it will mean more testing and medical interventions. That doesn’t sound like more freedom to me.
