THIt’s so easy for our identity to become wrapped up in what we do as physicians.
300-400 physicians die each year by suicide. And suicide deaths are 250-400% higher among female physicians compared to women in other professions. These numbers are heartbreaking.
If there’s one message we can put on repeat for this community - it’s that your life is worth so much more than your occupation. Yes, what we get to do is incredible. The care, the healing, the conversations and relationships, etc… it all matters and makes a difference…but it’s not worth our life.
Hopefully this serves as a drop of love and encouragement for you and your partner/family today. You’re never alone. Don’t be too proud to ask for help. Your family wants and needs you here tomorrow. ❤️

OBlast but not least, things that were hard about intern year that I wasn’t expecting: constructive criticism 🥴
let’s be so for real, I knew I’d get lots & lots of constructive criticism in residency—that part wasn’t a surprise. but I felt like as a med student I had gotten really good at swallowing the feedback and implementing it without taking it personally, but feedback in residency just feels so different and cuts a little deeper 😣
but little by little, every piece of feedback that I took and implemented made me a better resident. It definitely didn’t always feel great and I didn’t notice any major progress on a day-to-day basis, but by the end of intern year I saw a massive improvement in myself as a resident. and now as a brand new pgy-2, I actually seek out feedback in ways I never did as an intern because I know it’ll continue to make me better.
hopefully this serves as some encouragement for any interns feeling like they can’t get a win some days—there’s a light at the end of the tunnel! ☀️
and for any interns experiencing the valley of suck right now—just know that you aren’t alone! every single one of your co-interns is getting the same feedback and criticism. which is exactly why I’m making these videos—to normalize and talk about how intern year is hard for everyone & you aren’t alone 🫶🏻

Everything you do adds or subtracts to that culture. You cant control your peers - but you do determine whether those you interact with feel encouraged, supported, loved, heard, corrected, and championed.
Macro-culture doesn’t change overnight, but micro-culture can. Its starts with you.

AKI needed this way more than I thought.
My intention of going to San Diego was solely for the ACOOG conference. I didn't realize how much I needed a break from rotations and medicine in general.
My gen surge experience was the worst 🫣 and getting the opportunity to connect with like minded people in my home state was exactly what I needed to refuel my soul and my passions.
With the sun ☀️ kissing my mind, body and soul I returned to rotations a whole new person.
Able to fully feel joy and smile and be 100% me. I'm also so thankful the rotation I started today is so amazing 😍 my preceptor is sooooooo cool and so supportive.
I think it is so so so important to find a place where you reset. Gosh I didn't realize how much I was losing myself and my joy and my reason for what im doing until I stepped away and really got to reflect.
Anyway, im thankful for thr reset. Thankful for the new changes coming up. Thankful for joy. Thankful for new friends. Thankful for this life. Thankful for the opportunity to reset. So damn thankful.
