It was challenging to choose a cover for this reel because I love all my art equally. Every one of my pieces express a part of me and a moment captured in my life’s timeline. I am more known for my fine-line detailed pen and ink work, but I also do a lot of intuitive abstractions. My artwork is heavily guided by emotions and they carry a lot of feelings with them. If you know me you know that every piece I make is created with my heart. But some of my “emotional surrealism” or “abstract expressionism” ones are the expressions that I think that there are either no words for, or it will take me a long time to describe and explain. Maybe over a cup of coffee and vegan cookies. It’s always better to view the art, get lost in the details, and just feel it for yourself. Isn’t it amazing how all the information can be contained in the drops of paint and stored on these canvases? These are some of the pieces I don’t usually post because they’re more personal but its 2024 and this new year I am trying to be more extroverted! 🙃 What do you think? Ps. Without using paint, canvas or pencils and paper, I was excited to see if we could make something that generated good looking Spin Paintings that weren’t in the real world. The results have blown my mind!” - @damienhirst The Beautiful Paintings are Hirst’s latest iteration of Spin Paintings. Tracing its roots back to 1992, Spin Paintings was Hirst’s reaction to Abstract Expressionism and his desire to devise a machine to make art. Over the past 30 years, Hirst has continued to return to the spin format; he has used various shapes, sizes and techniques to build on this body of work. Generative and machine learning algorithms replace Hirst’s mechanical tools but preserve the series’ long-standing aesthetic of chance and randomness.
