THE BASIL TRICK 🌿 1. Never water the soil, only water the saucer 2. Always keep the saucer full 3. Never pluck, always trim the stem just above a leaf Some other helpful tips: 4. Use an XL saucer or bowl. It will drink what it needs! 5. Repotting into a bigger pot will mean a bigger basil! Use normal potting soil. You can split supermarket plants into multiple pots if you want. 6. This works best in the warmer months and INDOORS! 7. Basil loves a sunny spot 🌞 8. Wait until your basil is growing before you trim 9. Give it time - these plants are three to four months old 10. Once it’s big, trimming will keep your basil healthy and bushy. Trim off any flowers immediately! 11. I use terracotta pots and water impermeable saucers. BASIL IS THE EASIEST PLANT TO PROPAGATE & MULTIPLY FOR FREE! All you need are cuttings from a basil plant and a glass of water! You can try this with grocery store basil too! HERE’S HOW TO PROPAGATE BASIL: 👇 🌱1. Take cuttings of healthy, non-flowering basil stems. Cut a 4 to 6 inch long stem, leaving small baby leaves intact on the mother plant to continue growing. 🌱2. Strip off the leaves from the bottom 2 to 3 inches of the stem. 🌱3. Place it in a glass of water making sure that no leaves are submerged under water. 🌱4. Change the water every 2 days. 🌱5. Roots should start developing in 7 to 10 days. Once roots are about an inch or two long, transplant into a well draining pot or container that’s filled with rich, fluffy, organic soil. You can also transplant into the garden after your last frost date has passed. Watch your basil cuttings grow and enjoy the harvests! If your basil always dies after you bring it home from the garden center… this is probably why. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT MY FAVORITE TOMATO SOUP RECIPE. IT’S SO GOOD WITH FRESH BASIL 🍅🌿 Those little pots are actually packed with a bunch of plants all crammed together, so they’re basically competing for water, sunlight, and space… What I always do (and it works every time) is - grab the fullest pot, then when I get home I gently separate all the plants. I try to keep the root ball as intact as possible, - I replant them into their own pots with fresh soil. It feels a little tedious, but it makes such a difference. - Once they each have their own space, they grow so much bigger and don’t dry out nearly as fast. Just give them a sunny spot, water consistently (not too much), and trim them often—and you’ll have basil that actually lasts instead of dying in a week 🌿 #gardeningtips #basil #tradwife #garden

BASIL OIL 🌿 The perfect way to use up a tonne of fresh basil, especially if you’re looking for something else to make other than pesto! It adds a beautiful fresh flavour and instantly elevates any dish. Ingredients 1 bunch fresh basil, leaves only Neutral oil (I used avocado - see step 4 for exact ratios) Method: 1. Bring a pot of water to a boil and prepare an ice bath on the side. Rinse the leaves well then add to the water and blanch for 10-15 seconds until wilted and vibrant green. 2. Immediately transfer the basil into an ice bath to stop the cooking and preserve the colour. 3. Once cooled, drain and squeeze out as much water as possible and transfer into a blender with twice the amount of oil by weight (a 1:2 ratio of basil to oil). For example, if using 100g basil, add 200mL oil. The more oil you use, the milder the flavour will be and vice versa. Blend until completely smooth. 4. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, cheesecloth or coffee filter and allow it to slowly strain, separating the oil from the pulp. 5. Transfer the leftover pulp to a jar, top with a little oil, cover and store in the fridge. It’s perfect stirred through pasta or spread onto toast (you can season with a pinch of salt if you like). 6. Transfer the oil into a clean jar or squeeze bottle and store in the fridge. Use within 3-5 days for best freshness, or up to 1 week. #plantbased #veganrecipes #easyrecipes #basiloil #basil

Today we are back and I am showing you my journey over the last five years of growing and enjoying fresh basil at home, and the best part is you only need a few cheap plants from the supermarket to get started. Basil is one of my all time favourite herbs, not just for its amazing culinary uses but also as a great companion plant in the garden too. However, unfortunately it is one plant that seems to cause gardeners quite a few issues to grow, but the good news is that’s often not your fault, and is easy to fix! Most basil plants fail because of how they are grown and sold. For the most part you will buy basil in small pots of relatively poor compost, and in these pots you will see 30 or more small basil plants. Each basil plant can grow into its own bush if grown and pruned properly so we need to give them some love. It all starts by gently separating small clusters of basil, and potting them on into larger pots filled with good quality compost. As a side note this is great as you get multiple plants from the one you bought. Then over the spring and summer just keep them watered and in a sunny spot and you will notice they will be so much happier. As they grow instead of picking each leaf, keep harvesting the tips, which will cause the plant to bush out giving you a healthier plant, and more to harvest. Basil is an annual plant so will die off at the end of each year, but you can take a few cuttings, which can be grown on a windowsill over winter and then planted back out the following spring to repeat the process again. Thank you so much for watching, the last few weeks have been tough with everything going on and your support means the world, I love you all, Joe 😊🌱💚🙏 #basil #gardening #gardentips #zerowaste #harvest

Plant over i god jord, med lecakuler nederst.

3 tips for a thriving Basil Plant 🌱 so that it grows into a huge Basil bush 🌿 If you want a basil bush full of leaves, here are my 3 tips for you: 💚First tip, don’t harvest your basil leaf by leaf. What you should do instead is to cut your basil below the main head. The little leaves below will continue to grow. The plant will split from one stem into two new stems. Repeat the same process on these two new stems to multiply and create new stems, growing into a huge basil bush like this. 💚 Tip number two, cut the flowers. Once basil blooms, it puts energy into creating seeds instead of leaves. Cut the flowers to extend the life of your basil. You can reuse these flowers for cooking or to make a delicious herbal infusion or simply dry the flowers, place them in a bag, and you will be able to collect loads of free basil seeds to plant next year. 💚 Third tip, feed your plant. Collect the compost tea from your composter and dilute with water. I also place dry cow manure at the base of the stem. You can then water to feed your soil and your plant. Green love to you! 🌱💚 #basil #plantcare #gardeninglife
