My 91 yr old MOM is mobile because she MOVES… often. She chooses NOT to be sedentary. There are days she wants to be a couch potato but in her words “ If you don’t use it, you will lose it.” She gardens, strength trains 3X a week ( Yes , she even drivers herself to her gym in the snow.) walks on an incline on the treadmill, strides on the elliptical and she gets down on the floor and stretches. Don’t use age as an excuse. It’s never to late to start. This is not a pass-fail test. The primary goal of this test is to determine whether you have a good range of motion in your hips. It also gauge is leg and core strength, as well as balance and coordination. If you’re not able to do it, take stock. Ask yourself how can you improve your core strength, leg strength, balance and agility? What if you’re fit, but you had an injury? The test doesn’t account for injuries, so either wait until you’re healed to try the test, or don’t assume your results are the end all be all measure of your health. The test also doesn’t account for musculoskeletal limitations.
