SWPlanned this in 2 days impromptu and luckily it turned out well 😂 Special thanks to @katie.k8__ who joined me for this last minute trip 😍
Penang Hill is super easy to get to, about 20 min drive (we took Grab) from Georgetown and a sunrise hike (start before 7am) is definitely recommended for the views and also because it’s pretty unshaded and hot if you start later. Total elevation gain was 770m (in comparison Bukit Timah hill is 163m so do the math), 90% of it stairs 10% trail but it’s super steep and hardly any flat routes so be prepared for that. Everest Base Camp trek is on average about 500-700m elevation gain daily for 2 weeks so this was definitely a good start for our training! It’s either that or multiple loops of BTH back home😂
No permits or guides needed, super touristy so you won’t get lost and there’s a hawker centre at the top where you can buy drinks and food but do remember to take your photos at the Lower Station because the rest of the view at the top won’t be as spectacular as there will be more barriers.
It took us about 5h with about 1h+ of photos and rest at the top so plenty of time to head back to Georgetown for lunch and exploration. I actually fell asleep and did not wake up for dinner after that 😂

1. Loong Foong Cafe : Love their Hainanese chicken chop and traditional bread
2. Emily Darling Cafe: I actually went back the next day to try their pastries too but my favourite is still their homemade kombucha, they have a variety of flavours and comes with pieces of fruit infused so it was really refreshing!
