RESupport blending by practising reading words with 2 sounds.
If your child is struggling to blend (they cannot put sounds together to read the word), then practise first with words with 2 sounds. Get your child to say the two sounds, and then blend the sound into the word. If they struggle with this, model it for them: i-n = in. If they still find this difficult, practice lots of oral blending first.
Naturally when they get confident at this, you can move to reading CVC words with the sounds that they know.

KIWe use this game to practice letter recognition, letter sounds, CVC words and so much more. We focused our reading on words that contained the sounds of ch, sh, th and wh. After each round of passing the plate I made a digraph sound and students that had a word containing the focus sound stood up. When they sat down they passed the plate on and repeated. I love seeing my teacher friends doing variations of this in their classrooms. Comment below if you have tried this with your students!

Successive blending is my most favorite and reliable method to help struggling readers!
The place where many kids get stuck is blending CVC words or even words with 4 sounds. It’s such a frustrating place!
THIS method is tried and true! I promise!
Now the child may not get it first try or on the first day.. but with consistent practice and modeling, they will!!
⭐️ STEPS:
1️⃣ Say 1st sound
2️⃣ Say 2nd sound
3️⃣ Blend 1st and 2nd sound together
4️⃣ Say last sound
5️⃣ Blend first two sounds with last sound
6️⃣ Read the whole word together
🌟 TIPS: On step 3 when they’re blending the first 2 sound together….
➡️Teach this technique first with CVC words that begin with continuous sounds.
➡️Cover up the last letter so they can focus on the first 2.
➡️Keep blending and modeling the first two sounds until they have it solid before moving on to the last sound.

Rhyming teaches children how language works and helps them to begin listening for patterns in words.
This is an important pre reading skill.
In addition, this activity helps kids practice cvc words.
Teaching CVC words is an integral part of any pre-reading program. CVC words are formed of simple words that are easy to blend the individual letter sounds for those learning to sound out words with phonics.
Finally, this activity is used for preschoolers word families to help children read words they will be successful with to encourage them to keep reading and become more fluent. Word families are important because they help young learners recognize and analyze word patterns when they are learning to read.

There are 10 pages of rhyming sheets containing different activities such as :-
🍦Ice-cream delight - hen,*leg,*fan,*bid.
🍎 Basket of Apples -
*mud,*gap,*dot,*red.
🫖 Steaming kettle -*kid,*big,*zip,*bin.
☕ Cup of tea *cab,*bat,*dad,*cap
🍯 Jar of honey -bed,*mop,*sit,*can.
🥯 Love for donuts -gum,*mat,dip,*fun.
🌤️ Sunny with clouds -mob,*pop,*cub,*bug.
🪴 Plant of pot -fan,*nut,*dog,*dim
🐠🐟 Fish of bowl - fan,*bag,*,jam,*pet.

Circle match rhyming words with above words. Kids will sound out the word on the given sheet and then find and circle the other words in the icecream, apple, kettle,
cup, jar, donut, cloud, pot, fish bowl, plant pot with that rhyme with the featured word.
I have also add on 26 cvc rhyming strips to for more practice where they have to write on each strip with a featured rhyme word on it ...
