CAStop buying used cameras blindly. 🛑 A camera with heavy exterior wear (especially on the bottom edges) usually means the internal shutter has been abused.
Every mechanical shutter has an expiration date. If you buy a camera that's already at 90% of its lifespan, you are paying for an expensive repair, not a camera. 💸

JADon’t get scammed, If you buy used check these 5 things - (save this post for later)
1. Check the shutter count. Especially on a DSLR if the camera has taken 200,000+ photos it may be close to the end of its life and more expensive to repair than the value of the camera. Software to check shutter count : Canon - Shuttercount, Nikon - camera shutter count . com, Sony - Shutter Tool
2. Check for dust, dead pixels and scratches on the sensor. The best way to do this is to take the camera, turn the aperture to f/16 point it up at the sky and take a photo. This should reveal how clean or dirty your sensor is. While this isn’t a dealbreaker if it’s just dust because you may be able to remove the dust with a blower, a lot of dead pixels, or scratches will be something that you will want to avoid.
3. Paint wear on the body doesn’t mean that the camera wasn’t taken care of, it just means it was heavily used. Sometimes you can find a camera that takes incredible photos and get a better price on it, simply because it’s ugly. Keep your eye open for these types of cameras because the paint on the outside of the camera will never determine the quality of photo taken.
4. Dents are another story though. These are precision instruments, and a bad drop can eventually lead to a camera, not functioning properly. Trust me, I know from experience. I had a lens drop on concrete from about 4 1/2 feet. It worked for about three months, but eventually separated into two piece pieces. Dents for me are a NO GO.
5. Check the price of cameras on KEH, MPB, and eBay. Generally understand what the going rate is for the camera you are looking at. Stay away from deals that look too good to be true, often times when it’s too good of a price it’s someone who stole the camera and is trying to get rid of it quickly, or someone trying to scam you with a broken camera. Also don’t buy from the people who are charging close to retail for a used camera. The point of buying used is saving money.
