[ Nerve Damage After Childbirth ] A surprise preeclampsia diagnosis turned Paige and Kevin’s planned low-intervention birth into a 54-hour induction. But preparation in the #EBBChildbirth class with instructor @lucyparadisodoula, teamwork, and evidence-based care helped them navigate every twist along the way. In the #EBBPodcast, they share what it was like to adapt when birth didn’t go as planned, how Kevin stepped into the role of “dude-la,” and the lessons they learned from a marathon labor that ended with a healthy baby boy. 🎧 Listen now at the link in bio! Many families I work with through birth find that they are least confident in advocating for themselves, especially in a medical setting. One tool I share with them is B R A I N 🧠 When being presented with an intervention, you can ask: B: what are the benefits? R: what are the risks? A: what are the alternatives? I: what is my intuition telling me? N: what if we do nothing? Practice B R A I N in pregnancy so when you’re in labor, you’re more confident in asking questions, asking for more time to make decisions, and saying no when it feels right to do so. In this episode, I’m welcoming Laura at @lauravonbehrvintage to the podcast as she shares the story of her first birth. Laura was managing hypothyroidism and was later diagnosed with low PAPP-A, which led to increased monitoring and concerns around her baby’s growth and fluid levels. As her pregnancy progressed, she was advised to have an NHS hospital induction, marking a significant shift from the birth she had initially hoped for. Laura talks openly about navigating the “high-risk” label, multiple appointments, and the emotional weight of being told induction was strongly recommended. She shares her experience of a prolonged hospital induction, the use of the hormone drip, an epidural that left her struggling to feel how to push, and ultimately an assisted forceps birth. We also discuss the impact of COVID restrictions during her postnatal stay, the challenges of breastfeeding following a previous breast reduction, and the emotional aftermath of a birth that left her feeling more relief than euphoria. Laura reflects on consent, communication, and the importance of feeling heard and supported during labour. #birth #birthstory #hospitalinduction #britishbirthingstories #birthstories

Let’s ask the real question: Have our birth outcomes actually gotten better? The honest answer - No. 50 years ago, the C-section rate was around 5%. Today, in many countries, it’s risen to over 35%. Induction used to be around 10% thirty years ago. Now it’s climbed to 30%. Epidural rates? 60–80% depending on the region. More interventions yet not necessarily better outcomes. This isn’t about fear, it’s about awareness. It’s about women understanding what’s happening to their bodies, their births, and their choices. When intervention becomes the norm instead of the exception, we have to pause and ask: Are we supporting physiology, or interrupting it? Knowledge is power. Awareness is empowerment. Women deserve both. 🎧 Listen to the full podcast - Link in Bio. #radiantbirthco #radiantbirthpodcast #epidural #pregnancy #pregnancyoutcomes #empowerwomen #birtheducation #birthinterventions #pregnancytruth

“I thought I was just going to wing it.” It’s something birth educators hear more often than you might think. In this week’s episode, Dr. O is joined by Brittany Pruneau, a registered L&D nurse, a birth educator, and founder of @enlightened_expectations who has worked with hundreds of families preparing for labor and delivery. Brittany explains why birth preparation isn’t about scripting the “perfect” birth — it’s about understanding the possibilities, the decisions that might arise, and the options available to you in real time. Because when people walk into birth without that context, the experience can feel overwhelming or out of their control. In our conversation we talk about: • Why so many parents feel unprepared for labor • How expectations shape birth experiences • The gap between what people imagine birth will be like and what actually happens • Why birth education can make such a meaningful difference Birth is unpredictable. But understanding it can help people approach the experience with far more confidence. 🎧 The full conversation with Brittany Pruneau is now live. #newmom #birth #pregnancy #laboranddelivery #newparents

If birth interventions make birth safer, why aren’t we seeing better outcomes? In this episode of the How To Be A Woman Podcast, I sit down with obstetrician Miss Jess McMicking, to try to unpack this very complex topic but more importantly to give women an insight into how obstetricians think about: 👉🏾inductions, instrumentals and caesareans 👉🏾what factors go into their decision making 👉🏾where some of the grey areas lie and could be improved 👉🏾what you can do to advocate for yourself ❓Are birth interventions rising because OBs don’t understand physiological birth? ❓Do they simply not want to wait for labour to progress? ❓Are they overreacting to small risks? ❓Does delivering in hospital mean your birth plan automatically goes down the pan? Against the current backdrop, if the only time you meet an obstetrician is in labour and you really want a physiological birth, I can imagine many women will be petrified. I hope this episode helps a tiny bit. 🎧 Listen to the full episode; link in bio. #HowToThinkLikeYourOB #HowToBeAWomanPodcast #TheWomansHandbookPodcast #TheWomansHandbook
