Action before motivation. Peter Gollwitzer’s work on implementation intentions shows that taking even the smallest step kickstarts a psychological commitment loop. Action fuels motivation more reliably than waiting to “feel ready.” 2. Make your goals specific. Locke & Latham’s Goal Setting Theory (over 1,000 studies) found that specific, challenging goals (“Run 3 times this week”) consistently lead to higher performance than vague ones (“Get fitter”). 3. Progress fuels persistence. According to the goal‐gradient hypothesis, motivation increases as we get closer to a goal. A life skill we focus on with our kids is GOAL setting! They choose them and we teach them how to make small steps and work to make them happen. This was a hard couple of months for us. She was angry with me, but we stuck to it. We had so many good talks and helped her through something she thought was just “too hard”. I wanted to show her that she CAN complete her goals even when it gets hard. I can’t tell you how thankful I am that we did this. She grew so much in those months. She now is a kid that works hard even when things get tough. She believes in herself. She knows she can do anything she’s willing to work hard at🥹👏🏻 Raising strong kids?
