Share this with someone traveling to Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 Hi friends! Don’t let this discourage you from visiting. We’re (Tiana + Luis) sharing these hard truths because we want you to enjoy Puerto Rico the right way and not get caught off guard. 1. PUERTO RICO IS NOT A RESORT ISLAND If you want “everything handled,” PR can feel inconvenient. If you want variety, exploring, culture, and real places… PR won’t disappoint. 2. OLD SAN JUAN GETS OVERCROWDED (FAST) Those dreamy colorful streets can turn into a human traffic jam, especially when cruise ships are in port and on weekends. Want it calmer? Go early morning, pick a weekday, and don’t try to wing it at peak hours. 3. SERVICE CAN BE SLOW (AND THAT’S NORMAL) Meals and drinks often move at island pace. It’s not “bad service,” it’s just not a rush culture. Build extra time into your day, especially if you’re trying to squeeze in tours, reservations, or sunset plans. 4. POWER AND WATER OUTAGES CAN HAPPEN Especially outside major tourist areas. It’s not “third world,” it’s infrastructure reality. Keep a portable charger, download maps offline, and have a little flexibility in your plans. 5. YOU’LL PAY MORE IF YOU ONLY STAY IN TOURIST BUBBLES Tourist-area cafés and restaurants can be wildly overpriced because they know visitors will pay it. Walk a few blocks away, explore local spots, and you’ll usually get better quality and better prices. And support local when you can!! 6. THE OCEAN ISN’T ALWAYS TROPICAL CLEAR WATERS The beaches are stunning, but surf can be rough and currents can be dangerous depending on the day. Check the beach flags before you get in and if locals are staying out of the water… copy them. 7. NOT EVERYONE SPEAKS ENGLISH (MANY DO, BUT DON’T ASSUME) You’ll get by in plenty of places, but effort matters. Learn a few phrases and lead with them, even if you aren’t perfect. Being friendly and thoughtful goes a long way here. Save this for your Puerto Rico trip planning and send it to someone who needs it. 🇵🇷 #puertorico #travel #fyp #viral #traveltips

3 things tourists should NOT do in Puerto Rico (if you actually want a good trip): I say this with love, because we want people to come here and have an amazing experience, not leave with the most surface-level version of Puerto Rico. But first, let me introduce myself. I’m Tiana, and I married into a Puerto Rican family. We spent years traveling back and forth between the U.S. and Puerto Rico before moving here to be closer to family. We share Puerto Rico travel tips, must-knows, and hidden gems to make your trip the best possible! So, here are our 3 don’ts for visitors: 1) Don’t come here only for the beaches. Yes, the beaches are beautiful. Obviously. That part is not a secret. But Puerto Rico is so much more than a beach photo and a piña colada. Some of the best parts of being here are the things people miss when they don’t explore, like the food, the music, the small towns, the local spots, the history, the conversations, the culture. Come curious. Be respectful. Let yourself experience the island beyond what you saw on social media. 2) Don’t come without learning basic Spanish phrases. Most people do speak English, especially in tourist areas. But making an effort matters. A simple buenos días, gracias, or por favor goes a long way. It shows respect. It shows care. And if you plan to go outside San Juan (which you should), English is less common in some areas. Even a little Spanish can make your trip smoother and more meaningful. 3) Don’t go into La Perla like it’s a tourist attraction. This one is important. La Perla is a real neighborhood where people live. It is not a theme park, and it’s not a place to wander into casually for content. Respect people’s homes and space. Don’t assume every street is yours to explore just because you’re on vacation. You do not want to accidentally end up somewhere you shouldn’t be. Puerto Rico will give you an unforgettable trip, but the best experiences come when you move with respect, humility, and curiosity. 🤍 #puertorico #travel #fyp #badbunny #traveltips
