INGeobag placement is a common river engineering method used to reinforce shorelines and slow erosion. Crews fill large geotextile fabric bags with sand or dredged sediment, then position them in the water to form a heavy protective barrier. Over time, these bags help stabilize riverbanks and reduce damage from strong currents and seasonal flooding.
These geotextile bags are designed to be tough and permeable, meaning they can hold the fill material while still allowing water to pass through. Once they settle, they act like a man made foundation that can support additional sediment buildup. This is why they are widely used in land reclamation and embankment protection projects.
In this video, filmed in Sirajganj District, Bangladesh, the crew is using a barge to drop massive sediment filled geobags directly into the water along the shoreline. The explosive splash happens because each bag is extremely heavy and hits the surface with major force. It looks chaotic, but it is a controlled method of building up and protecting the riverbank.
