Modelled by the likes of Kate Moss and Amber Valletta, it was a show that captured the mood of the decade:decadent, seductive, and impossible to ignore… And when the finale came, Ford made his own history. Despite a contractual clause forbidding it, he stepped onto the runway to take a bow.
“I thought, ‘You know what? I’m going to do what I think is right. I’m going to step on the runway.’”
Gucci executives weren’t even mad – “The next day you could not get into the showroom. It was absolute hysteria. So, no, no one gave me flak after that.”
When Ford departed Gucci in 2004, his final bow felt inevitable, a standing ovation beneath a shower of rose petals, closing one of fashion’s most transformative chapters.
