In recreating the Kintsugi vase in paper, I reverse the order. The story doesn’t unfold from perfection to flaw to healing—it begins with the healing. The gold leads the way, and the vase comes after. It grows around the crack, not to hide it, but to hold it. I’m not mending what was. I declare that something broken is already worthy—and no less perfect than something that has never been broken.
