Putting LEDS into used motor oil is just magical! A throwback to 2019 when I was experimenting with this process. I ended up making 3 versions of this work but this round version is my favorite. Sadly used motor oil is very intense on everything it touches so the work didn't last for long. I haven't got the time to find a good alternative unfortunately. Maybe I will in the future. The motor oil just gives it an amazing colour gradient. #engineering #lightart #mechanical #art #light

¿Cómo puede un coche brillar en la oscuridad… sin LEDs ni baterías? No es un truco. Es pintura luminiscente basada en física real. Este tipo de recubrimientos contiene materiales fosforescentes que absorben energía de la luz (solar o artificial) y la almacenan temporalmente. Después, la liberan poco a poco en forma de luz visible. Por eso el coche “se enciende” en la oscuridad. El fenómeno se llama fotoluminiscencia. A nivel científico, ocurre porque los electrones del material absorben energía, saltan a un estado excitado y luego regresan liberando fotones. Pero lo interesante no es solo el efecto visual: • Puede mejorar la visibilidad nocturna • Reduce necesidad de iluminación externa • Se investiga para seguridad vial y señalización • Aplicaciones en diseño, arquitectura y tecnología No es solo estética.
