TOPeople often assume design begins with finishes.
It doesn’t.
We've spent over 20 years refining the TG Method, and it always begins with questions.
We want to understand how you actually live.
What a Monday looks like compared to a Saturday.
What you’re wearing when you open the door for guests. Which spaces feel natural and which feel unresolved.
Then we move into space planning. We test multiple layouts. We adjust flow. We look for square footage that isn’t working as hard as it could.
When the plan is finalized, we begin developing furniture and millwork. Finishes are layered in last.

“What Do you Want?”
(P.S. I have no idea how my voice got changed 😂)
Today, talking about a little visual framework that’s been helping me make my design decisions in a way that keeps the end goal in mind.
I guess you could say I’m very “type B”— rarely have a plan carefully thought out before going into anything. I’m an Improv Queen 👸 But I will admit this makes things harder.
Professional interior designers seem to have such clear vision and design plans, and I think we all wish we could be the same way!
The nice thing about this is you can use it to work backwards too- edit a finished room that doesn’t feel quite right, or set the goal beforehand (let’s say you only want a slight modern touch (new) and more classic base (old)— this actually lets you measure out choices as you go!)
But I do emphatically believe that a room that doesn’t have at least one element for each of these categories will fall flat and lose its “timelessness”.

CLI know it sounds a little backwards, but I promise it works👇🏼
Here’s how I do it:
• define the overall style direction first
• establish the main undertones for the house
• map the palette for the whole home
• then start choosing finishes in the right order
Once that foundation is clear, every decision becomes easier because everything already works together.
If designing your home feels like a constant struggle, you don’t need more inspiration.
You need a clear framework for making decisions.
That’s exactly what I teach inside my Whole Home Design System.
