JSEver wondered what goes on behind what you see in a live broadcast?
I have been fortunate enough over the past few years to volunteer as a video director, and have learnt a lot about what things to look out for, when to cut the cameras and also how to give clear instructions to my camera crew.
One main thing that I do when directing/mixing particularly in musical performances is including movement shots (zooms, pans, close ups of instruments) cut together in conjunction with the music so it flows nicely. I find that this creates more visual interest to the broadcast as a whole, and this can be used to varying degrees depending on the feel of the song and the atmosphere that is within the venue.
