I don’t believe in mindlessly copying the pros, but success leaves clues. These exercises and drills were performed by the Chinese National Team before the CNT Games in 2021 (thanks to @malongfanmadechannel for the footage).
These movements are a great way to assess speed, power, and quickness across a variety of planes.
The broad jump is a fantastic movement that tests lower body power.
Short sprints are a great way to test acceleration and speed.
The barrier drill (lateral COD) tests side-to-side movement on the frontal plane.
And the seated side twist throw isolates the upper body and test rotational power.
These movements all work well as exercises to be performed and improved upon over time, AND as TESTS to gauge progress.
Make sure you’re doing both!
The sample session I included at the end of the video gives you a place to start. It’s not a comprehensive program, just a sample workout that can be performed with minimal equipment before a table tennis session.
Remember though, just following a one-off workout you found on IG is like having ingredients but no recipe…
