Data centers seem like opportunity, but they’re really black box of unchecked big tech running rampant on our lands. Let’s look at the data. An average Google data center consumes roughly 450,000 gallons of water per day. A single large-scale, AI-focused facility can use 3 to 7 million gallons per day. Data centers are cited as the primary drivers for a 267% rise in wholesale electricity costs near U.S. data center hubs. Data centers and ICE are connected through a vast, AI-powered digital infrastructure that enables the agency to surveil, track, and process data on individuals for immigration enforcement. This connection relies on cloud storage, private data broker partnerships, and surveillance technologies.
