The subscription math doesn’t close. Twenty dollars a month per user, scaled aggressively, does not justify the capital that has been deployed into these companies. Advertising gets closer but still falls short. The only financial logic that actually reconciles the investment with the return is the one the companies themselves have stated: automate intelligence, and through it, all human labor in the economy. This is not a speculative reading. It is the stated vision. The business model, followed to its terminus, is not augmentation — it is replacement. Not of some jobs, not of routine tasks, but of the economic function of human labor as such. The implication that follows is structural rather than alarmist: five companies concentrating the productivity of an entire global economy is not a technology story. It is a political economy story of enormous consequence currently underway without a proportionate political response. What’s fascinating is that AI is enabling an entirely new breed of founders that we haven’t seen before. Not as founders at least. Not as tech founders. The old story is that tech founders had an idea somewhere in Silicon Valley and then tried to tiptoe towards market fit. They tried to understand the users, the customers, the problems, and slowly gained market understanding which in the end turned into product market fit. That game is over. It is over because it is outcompeted in a very simple way. AI is enabling a new breed of founders who really understand the market. Domain experts who exactly know what the users‘ problems are. They understand the market constraints, the supply chains, everything about the market. The tech founder who has tiptoed towards market fit has no chance to compete with them out there. So the new moat is no longer the software that tech founders are building, because building software has become cheap. The new moat is two things. Market understanding and domain expertise that no one can take away from you. Combined with the curiosity and the urge to build something new and make a change. Those two things together? They scale globally. If you run a bakery in a small village in France and you have the urge to create something that scales globally, you can do so. You can build solutions for bakeries worldwide without being a tech founder and without living in Silicon Valley. And that is fascinating.
