Bringing this back for the folks who’ve joined us lately! Most of us think of Platonic love as just “deep friendship.” But the truth? It began as one of the most powerful philosophical ideas in history. Plato, or rather, a woman named Diotima, whose ideas he wrote down, described love as a ladder. Each step takes you higher: from attraction to a person, to love of all beauty, to love of minds, to love of knowledge, and finally... to Beauty itself. Not beauty in someone. But Beauty as a force. A truth. An eternal form. Platonic love isn’t about staying stuck in admiration. It’s about growth. Expansion. It’s love as a path, not a destination. This reel is the full version of my 3-part series. If you’ve ever felt a love that transformed you, this might explain why. If you wanna read more - Pick up Plato’s Symposium #philosophy #platonic #plato #diotima #ladderoflove

Understanding Philosophers and Their Ideas Episode Plato You think you fell in love with someone. But according to Plato — that’s just the beginning. Love is a journey: • From one beautiful body • To all beauty in the world • To beautiful souls • To beautiful ideas • And finally… to Beauty itself Most people never go beyond the first step. Real love doesn’t stay on the surface. It evolves. It deepens. It transforms you. And the ones who understand this — don’t just love people… They understand existence itself. Next: Aristotle enters.

Aristotle’s profound reflection on love transcends time, capturing the essence of a connection that feels predestined. It suggests that true intimacy isn't just about companionship, but a rare, spiritual alignment where two distinct lives mirror a single heartbeat. When you find that person, the world feels less like a collection of individuals and more like a shared journey. It is the quiet understanding in a glance and the comfort of a presence that requires no words. This kind of bond doesn't just complement your life—it completes the narrative of who you are meant to be. . . Key Word: Inhabiting Meaning: To live in or occupy a place or person. Definition: To exist within or be present in a particular environment or entity. Example: "The ancient spirit was said to be inhabiting the giant oak tree at the edge of the forest." Hindi One-Word Meaning: निवास (Nivas)

Ancient Greeks divided love into 8 distinct words: Eros (erotic desire), Philia (deep friendship/loyalty), Storge (familial affection), Agape (unconditional love), Ludus (playful affection), Pragma (enduring committed love), Philautia (self-love), and Mania (obsessive love). Each is mapped to different relationships, obligations, and even different gods. English collapsed all 8 into one word derived from Old English 'lufu' (Germanic *lubo), which originally meant just desire/pleasure. The precision was lost in translation across centuries. The Greeks refused this poverty. They carved love into eight distinct experiences, each with its own name and its own neurochemistry. Eros: desire that consumes. Philia: the loyalty between equals who have bled together. Storge: the bond you never chose but cannot break. Agape: love that expects nothing in return. Ludus: playful, dancing, uncommitted affection. Pragma: the love that survives decades through negotiation. Philautia: the necessary love of self. And mania: obsessive love that devours. Plato dedicated an entire dialogue to distinguishing these. C.S. Lewis wrote a book on just four of them. Helen Fisher's brain scans show that eros, philia, and agape activate completely different neural circuits. They are not the same emotion at different intensities. They are DIFFERENT emotions. When you say 'I love you' and your partner hears something different, it is not a communication problem. It is a vocabulary problem. You are using a single word to describe eight experiences. The Greeks had precision. We traded it for convenience. And now we pay for that trade in every misunderstanding, every unmet expectation, every time someone says 'love' and the other person hears a word that was never spoken. ~~ Cultivate Wisdom ~~ ◆ C.S. Aristophanes from Plato’s Symposium - currently 2300 years old: “Each of us when separated, having one side only, like a flat fish, is but the indenture of a man, and he is always looking for his other half. Men who are a section of that double nature which was once called androgynous are lovers of women; … but those who are a section of the male follow the male, and while they are young, being slices of the original man, they hang about men… And when one of them meets with his other half, the actual half of himself… the pair are lost in an amazement of love and friendship and intimacy, and one will not be out of the other’s sight, as I may say, even for a moment. These are the people who pass their whole lives together; yet they could not explain what they desire of one another. For the intense yearning which each of them has towards the other does not appear to be the desire of lovers’ intercourse, but of something else which the soul desires and cannot tell.. Love is simply the name for the desire and pursuit of the whole.” Maybe separation is the very thing that made love even possible. As another saying goes: You don’t know, what you have until it’s gone. And for the dumb dumbs: The alphabet people already existed back then. It’s not a new invention. If you are not gay, you don’t have to be. No one is forcing you. You are or you are not. People, who are, don’t have a choice, it’s literally who they are. It’s not like a piece of clothes you can just put on and wear whenever you want. Because if they could be, what you want them to be, to receive love and care, they would be that. It’s not being rebellious. It’s being, who they are. You have to decenter yourself, because not everything what people do is about you. Everyone lives for themselves. Focus on your own business. And human rights are basic rights.

Plato (c. 428–348 BCE) was a famous Greek philosopher, a student of Socrates and the teacher of Aristotle. He founded the Academy in Athens and wrote many works exploring truth, beauty, love, and human nature. “At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.” Plato suggests that love awakens a deeper emotional and creative side of people. When someone experiences love, their feelings become stronger and more meaningful. Because of this, they begin to express themselves in ways that are more beautiful, sincere, and thoughtful—like poetry. Even people who are usually quiet or ordinary start speaking with passion and emotion. In this way, love inspires creativity and allows people to express feelings they might otherwise struggle to put into words.
