Blink-182 recorded this during the shows that became The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back!), right before “All the Small Things” became unavoidable. The album had been out since June 1999. The single followed in December. By early 2000, it was in constant MTV rotation and pushed the band into global headliner status.
The song was written by Tom DeLonge about his girlfriend at the time, focusing on reassurance and small acts of care rather than dramatic heartbreak. Lines like “She left me roses by the stairs” center on everyday proof of loyalty. Blink-182 formed in Poway, California in 1992, building their following through DIY shows and Warped Tour before breaking through with Dude Ranch in 1997. When Travis Barker joined in 1998 and producer Jerry Finn worked on Enema of the State, the band shifted from regional pop-punk trio to mainstream success. “All the Small Things” became their defining crossover moment.
