TRAll eyes were on the reigning world champion, but the shock came in the final result. 🇺🇸 Sha’Carri Richardson, the queen of last two seasons, crossed the line ninth and last in the women’s 100m at the #Pre50 Prefontaine Classic, clocking 11.19 seconds — far off her usual standard.
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden took the win in 10.75, just ahead of Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred in 10.77, while Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith was third. Jamaica’s Tina Clayton followed in fourth.

1/25/51 – 5/30/75
Fifty years ago today, Steve Prefontaine passed away. He was only 24. But what he stood for still sticks with me.
Pre’s famous line—“To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift”—has followed me through just about every part of my life. It’s inspired me, challenged me, and honestly, reminded me when I’ve started to drift.
I found myself volunteering at the Oregon State Penitentiary because that’s something Pre used to do. He didn’t make a big deal about it. He just showed up. I figured if it meant that much to him, maybe I should give it a shot too.
I went in thinking I’d be helping others. I came out realizing it was helping me just as much. That quote of his? It hit differently in there.
Truth is, I haven’t always lived up to it. I’ve had slumps—in work, in relationships, even just trying to figure out what my gifts really are. But Pre’s words have always been a checkpoint for me. A reminder to show up fully. To stop holding back. To give whatever I’ve got.
He may be gone 50 years, but he’s still coaching me.
And now, I have something that brings it all even closer.
This framed photo of Pre—created to promote the 1976 Olympic Trials in Eugene—was signed by him just hours before he passed. It might be the last thing he ever signed for someone.
My dad and I purchased it together, and that moment started something new for us: a shared passion for collecting meaningful pieces like this. As a young adult, it brought us even closer—something I’ll always treasure.
It’s more than a photo. It’s a reminder to keep chasing the best version of myself. To keep showing up. To never sacrifice the gift.
