If you’ve followed my journey, you know our roller coaster didn’t stop at birth…
It just changed tracks.
When my baby became a toddler, people assumed everything was “normal” now.
But here’s what no one warned me about 👇
✨ Delayed Toddler Milestones
A toddler who was born preterm or IUGR may still struggle with balance, coordination, climbing, running, jumping or even chewing textured foods.
Things other toddlers do effortlessly may take extra time, therapy and patience here.
✨ Speech & Communication Delays
Many preterm toddlers start talking later, have fewer words, or struggle to express themselves — leading to frustration, meltdowns and so many “Is something wrong?” moments.
Early intervention with a Speech Therapist can be life-changing.
✨ Feeding Struggles Continue
Low birthweight toddlers often have poor appetite, oral aversions, texture issues or slow weight gain.
Meals become stressful. Growth charts still feel triggering.
And yes — the pressure to “just make them eat” never really stops.
✨ Low Immunity Still Follows
Frequent illnesses, hospital visits, weight loss after every sickness — the fear doesn’t magically disappear just because they’re older.
Every fever still hits differently.
✨ Constant Comparison & Labels
“He’s still so small.”
“She doesn’t act her age.”
“They’ll catch up… maybe.”
What people don’t see is the invisible work — therapies, appointments, exercises, worry and hope — every single day.

GUParents, अपने newborn baby की healthy growth के लिए एक important चीज़ miss मत कीजिए — Vitamin D drops. 👶
यह एक ऐसी drop है जो लगभग हर doctor newborn babies को prescribe करते हैं। अगर आपके doctor ने अभी तक prescribe नहीं की है, तो उनसे ज़रूर पूछिए।
अगर preterm baby है तो लगभग 800 IU Vitamin D, और अगर term baby है तो लगभग 400 IU Vitamin D दी जाती है।
नई guidelines के अनुसार बच्चों को कम से कम 1 साल तक और कई cases में 2 साल तक Vitamin D drops देने की सलाह दी जाती है (doctor की सलाह के अनुसार)।
बहुत से parents सोचते हैं कि बच्चे को धूप दिखाने से Vitamin D पूरा हो जाएगा, लेकिन ऐसा हमेशा sufficient नहीं होता।
चाहे बच्चा breastfeed, cow milk, या formula feed पर हो — Vitamin D drops देना ज़रूरी हो सकता है।
इसलिए अपने pediatrician से सलाह लेकर बच्चों को Vitamin D drops ज़रूर दीजिए।

MI#AD Many of you already know I had twin boys at 34 weeks gestation. It was a very sudden decision to bring them into the world as one of them wasn't thriving well in the womb - his placenta had started to cause problems.
It was a very daunting time but I had to quickly get used to the situation and prepare for the arrival. In all honesty I was so well in my pregnancy that I really thought I would get to at least 36/37 weeks with them I never thought I would end up holding 4lb babies that needed help to breathe.
After spending a few days on cpap (breathing apparatus) and a few more weeks in normal cots trying to establish breastfeeding, they came home. They took a while to catch up with other babies born at the same time but now are healthy 13 year olds!
This is why I've partnered with @tuclothing who, in partnership with @Blisscharity, the UK's leading charity for babies born premature or sick, has just launched their new Tu Baby: Premature range. The range is designed for babies who weigh just 2lb and over and is available at tu.co.uk and in selected Sainsbury's stores.
As a mum and a midwife I've experienced prematurity first hand so I'm working with Tu to share my top tips to help support parents going through a similar experience
Some tips for parents of premature babies:
- Dont compare your baby to other babies born at the same time
- Spend as much time with them as possible and ask the nicu nurse about Kangaroo care.
- Ask about rooming in- living in with your baby for a few days as they prepare to leave the hospital
- Stock up on preemie baby clothes, especially if you know you will be giving birth early.
