(Read below👇) This may look simple at first, but… If your child struggles with ADHD or anxiety, this 60-second exercise can make a BIG difference. Here’s why... These two boys are doing The Lizard Exercise, and it’s one of the easiest ways to calm an overstimulated nervous system and organize the brain for better attention, emotional control, and learning. ➡️ If your child melts down easily ➡️ Gets overwhelmed by noises or chaos ➡️ Has trouble sitting still or focusing ➡️ Struggles with impulsivity or transitions ➡️ Or seems anxious about “small” things… You’re not alone — and it’s not bad parenting. Many kids today have primitive reflexes that never fully integrated, which keeps their brain stuck in survival mode instead of problem-solving mode. The Lizard helps because it activates: ✔️ Cross-body movement (boosts focus & coordination) ✔️ Vestibular system (supports emotional regulation) ✔️ Core & midline (for body awareness) ✔️ Brainstem → cerebellum → cortex pathway (for attention + learning) Together, that means: 🧠 calmer nervous system 🧠 fewer emotional outbursts 🧠 better attention 🧠 more confidence 🧠 improved impulse control If you want more natural home-based strategies like this for ADHD… 💬 Comment “SPOT” to get into our free training. And if you want to learn exactly why primitive reflexes matter — and what you can do to help your child from home, we’re hosting a free webinar called: “3 Simple Secrets to Solving ADHD 100% Naturally From Home.” Happening soon + spots are filling quickly — just comment SPOT and we’ll save you one 💛 #adhdsupport #primitivereflexes #childdevelopment #ADHDKids #

Last week a child with autism came into our office extremely dysregulated. Being in the room was overwhelming and the screaming felt nonstop. For many kids with autism, meltdowns are not a choice. Their brains struggle to regulate. The first few days were intense. Then things began to shift. By calming neural inflammation and supporting brain regulation (including increasing GABA, a calming neurotransmitter), his nervous system started to settle. Primitive reflexes began to fade. Communication opened up. By the end of day three, he said “Dad” for the first time. By day five, he was calm, regulated, and able to control his emotions. When the brain can regulate, development has room to grow. Comment “HELP” below if your child is struggling with these issues, my team will reach out with free resources and answer any questions you have 📲😊

💬 Here’s what I begin to notice in Hakeem: 🧠 Better movement and coordination: My son gained more control over his body. Movements become smoother and more confident, which makes everyday activities easier and less frustrating. He started to look less clumsy and more in control of his own body. 🧠 Stronger fine motor skills: Hands and fingers start working together more efficiently. This shows up in things like neater handwriting, better drawing, and more confidence with small, precise tasks. 🧠 Less sensory overload: Sounds, textures, and daily sensory input become more manageable. This means fewer meltdowns and less irritability throughout the day. 🧠 More flexibility with food choices: When sensory sensitivity decreases, many children become more open to trying new foods and expanding their diet. This also means that eating habits can change, since the food texture may be tolerated better. It was a game-changer for my son. Our diet has changed drastically for the better. 🧠 More emotional balance: As primitive reflexes integrate, anxiety and emotional ups and downs often soften. My son tends to feel calmer, more grounded, and more secure in himself. 🧠 Improved focus and learning: It becomes easier for Hakeem to pay attention, stay on task, listen, and absorb information. Learning feels less overwhelming and more natural as it should. 🧠 Clearer speech and communication: Speech often flows more smoothly and feels like coming through more. My boy started to express himself better, speak more clearly, and understand information more easily. 🪩 By working with primitive reflexes, you’re not “fixing” your child - you’re supporting their nervous system so it can grow and develop the way it was designed to. This is where a strong foundation begins. Everything our kids do - moving their bodies, learning, communicating, even handling emotions - starts with skills that should naturally develop in the early years. When those early reflexes integrate properly, the nervous system can finally do its job the way it’s meant to. #autism #autismroadmap #reflexintegration #autismsupport #primitivereflexintegration

This young man who struggled with mood and motivation issues has done incredibly well with the Melillo Method as opposed to two years of medication and traditional psychotherapy. We also do very specific types of brain based stimulation using Neurofeedback specific for certain areas and networks in his brain combined with the Melillo Method laser protocols. All to create more coordination and integration of the networks between hemispheres. This is of course with bottom up stimulations of Primitive Reflexes, core and other sensory stimulation. And he is a big fan of my daughters music and is wearing her @velvetellis_ shirt 🙌 @isaacgwade drrobertmelillo.com

Many kids struggle with focus, big emotions, anxiety, or coordination because of retained primitive reflexes. These reflexes are meant to integrate in early childhood. When they don’t, a child’s nervous system can stay stuck in stress, affecting learning, behavior, and emotional regulation. The good news? Reflexes can be integrated, and kids often show real improvements when the nervous system gets the support it needs. 👉 Learn more in My Roadmap to Recovery, Volume 2 Comment “VOLUME 2” ⭐️⭐️⭐️

🧠🔄 3 Primitive Reflexes That Could Be Affecting Your Child’s Development If your autistic child struggles with coordination, focus, or sensory processing—retained primitive reflexes might be the hidden culprit. What Are Primitive Reflexes? Automatic movements present at birth that should naturally integrate by age 1-2. When they don’t, they interfere with development. The 3 Key Reflexes: 1️⃣ STNR (Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex) When head tilts forward/back, arms and legs move involuntarily. Affects sitting posture, handwriting, and reading across a page. 2️⃣ ATNR (Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex) Turning head causes arm extension on that side. Makes crossing midline, bilateral coordination, and ball skills extremely difficult. 3️⃣ Moro Reflex (Startle Reflex) Hypersensitivity to sudden movements, sounds, or changes. Creates constant anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and fight-or-flight responses. The Good News? These reflexes CAN be integrated through targeted occupational therapy exercises—dramatically improving behavior, learning, and emotional regulation! 📩 Is your child showing these signs? DM us for a reflex integration assessment at Brainstorming Minds. Let’s address the root cause! 💙 #trending #viral #instagram #explorepage #explore

Most parents don’t realize this 👇
Every time you lift your baby, you’re activating their vestibular system—the bodies system that supports balance, coordination, posture, emotional regulation, and developmental milestones. 🧠 When you’re picking your child up multiple times a day, those movements add up and support powerful brain development So what’s happening with each type of movement?
🙌🏼 Flying — supports core strength and prepares the brain for crawling and walking
🙌🏼 Flipping — helps integrate primitive reflexes and organize the midline 🙌🏼 Inversion — builds balance, strengthens neural pathways, and enhances spatial awareness
🙌🏼 Pick-ups — foster confidence, stability, and coordination 🙌🏼 Swinging — supports the cerebellum for focus, rhythm, and regulation #babydevelopment #sensoryprocessing #occupationaltherapy #grossmotordevelopment #play

Navigating your child’s developmental journey can bring unique challenges, especially when primitive reflexes are at play. You might be wondering if endless, repetitive exercises are the only path to resolution. That feeling of searching for answers is incredibly common. What if there’s a different way? Our approach focuses on the brain’s incredible capacity to integrate these reflexes naturally. It’s not always about traditional stroking or movement exercises; it’s about optimizing brain function, reducing inflammation, and activating higher cortical pathways. This allows the brain to inhibit these reflexes on its own, even in children who are uncooperative with typical therapies. Seeing a child struggle with developmental delays, brain injury, or even ADHD can be incredibly tough. But there is profound hope in understanding that when the brain functions optimally, it can lead to significant improvements in integrating these primitive reflexes. We’re here to offer a fresh perspective and innovative solutions to support a child’s growth. If you’re ready to explore a brain-first approach to primitive reflex integration, we can help. If you want a simple guide on Primitive Reflexes, I wrote a full book that walks parents through all of this. All jokes aside, this is something common that happens when I talk to people! No one knows about retained primitive reflexes, what causes reflexes not to integrate, or just how impactful they can be on everyday activities. Thankfully I have no problem letting you know that all of your unanswered childhood questions probably are related to the fact that you didn’t crawl. Yes, you too, Karen. 😉 If this resonated with you, it’s not too late- you can always give your brain a second chance to integrate with movements and daily exercises! ATNR in adults is more common than people realize. This primitive reflex should integrate in infancy—but when it doesn’t, the body adapts instead. 👉 Neck tension 👉 Shoulder or arm movement with head turning 👉 Poor posture or coordination 👉 Difficulty crossing midline 👉 Nervous system over-compensation This isn’t about weakness. It’s about neurology.
