AN“Why aren’t they attacking you?” “You’re not scared around those sharks?”. These are the most popular questions I get asked about sharks when the knowledge about them is rooted in fear. But I get it, most of the time you and I hear about sharks is if there is a negative shark encounter, but that’s not how the majority of shark encounters go.
It’s important not to forget sharks are apex predators but this doesn’t mean we should be afraid of them. Sharks only care about one thing: Survival - and most of the time they show that by not wanting anything to do with people and staying off in the distance. I’ve taken many people out on dive trips where they weren’t even aware there was a shark around them when I see it off in the distance, but the shark always sees us.
They play an important role in balancing the marine ecosystem and a healthy shark population is the best tell sign of a healthy marine ecosystem.
The only way you can shift your perspective on sharks or anything you’re afraid of is by educating yourself. Don’t let fear win.

SCTiger sharks have great eye sight 👏🏼
They cannot however, see directly in front of them 👀 and neither could you if your eyes were where your ears are 😦 Thats why sharks quickly turn their heads. Hammerhead sharks however can see a full 360 degrees!
