Spokane Falls: The largest urban waterfall in the US
For Expo ‘74, Spokane envisioned a transformation that would combine functionality with aesthetic appeal, focusing particularly on Spokane Falls and its surroundings. Havermale Island, once an industrialized barrier between the city and the scenic river falls, became the canvas for this vision. The city removed rail yards and heavy infrastructure, clearing the way not just for the fair but for a lasting public space that enhanced access to the natural beauty of the falls.
This effort was not just about cleaning up; it was about creating a sustainable attraction that integrated the natural environment with urban development. The strategic planning for Expo ‘74 turned what was once a congested industrial area into a vibrant, accessible waterfront park that continues to draw residents and visitors alike, celebrating Spokane’s commitment to preserving its natural landmarks while fostering urban growth.

It’s true, there’s much more to our move than just the weather and the traffic but… we definitely don’t miss the rainy afternoons sitting in traffic when all you want to do is be home 🏡
We’ll gladly take the open roads to gridlock traffic.
And sunny winter days (even when freezing 🥶) for months-on-end of rain 😅
When it comes to quality of life, it’s these daily changes that make all the difference.
Waking up more days to sunshine than not ☀️
Knowing your commute every day (with no surprises… normally)
Coming home to somewhere quiet and restful that’s still less than 30 minutes from your work.
These are the reasons why we’re grateful to call Spokane our home📍

1. The first Father’s Day in the entire United States started in Spokane. It was founded in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd.
2. Hoopfest is the largest 3-on-3 outdoor basketball tournament in the world. Hundreds of courts. Thousands of teams. It takes over downtown every summer.
3. Spokane is one of the only major cities in America with a river running right through downtown. And you can walk right up to the falls.
4. Riverfront Park used to be a railyard before Spokane hosted Expo ’74, the first environmentally themed World’s Fair. That event completely reshaped the downtown core.
5. Spokane Falls is one of the largest urban waterfalls in the U.S. You can hear it from blocks away during spring runoff.
6. Manito Park draws over 150,000 visitors every year to its gardens, including the Duncan Garden and Japanese Garden. It is one of the most visited parks in Washington.
7. The Centennial Trail runs more than 60 miles from Spokane all the way to Idaho. You can bike, walk, or run through river views the entire way.
8. Gonzaga basketball is one of the winningest programs in the nation over the last 20 years. Spokane turns into a college basketball town every March.
9. Spokane has one of the largest skywalk systems on the West Coast. It connects much of downtown and locals use it all winter.
10. Liberty Lake, Long Lake, Newman Lake, and Hauser Lake are all within a short drive of the city. Spokane is a lake town even if people do not realize it.
11. You can drive 30 minutes and cross into another state, change landscapes, or hit a totally different style of town. Mountains, farmland, lakes, forests, all right next to each other.

1️⃣ @downrivergrill: If you haven’t tried the DRG Burger, you’re missing out! The chipotle BBQ bacon-onion jam is bold and packs a ton of flavor. I’ll get it every single time I’m in the Audubon area!
2️⃣ @lorenbistro: The Loren Burger is special… Glazed pork belly? Yes🙌 Pro tip: Do not skip the parmesan frites. And add on a side of garlic aioli for dipping🔥
3️⃣ @durkins_liquor_bar: The Durkin’s Famous Double is a Spokane classic. Made with two patties and in-house American cheese… honestly, there would be public outcry if this didn’t make the list.
4️⃣ @wisconsinburgerspokane: Their signature Wisconsin Burger is perfection. It has all the standard toppings you normally find on a burger (plus caramelized onion!). It just always hits the spot. Side note: two (maybe three?) words…in-house custard. Their frozen custard is amazing - so make sure you save room!
