Ready for waterfalls, lake days, and mountain views? Here’s your guide to a weekend at Fall Creek Falls State Park, one of Tennessee’s most epic state parks. Location: Spencer, TN 📍 About 2 hours from Nashville, Knoxville, or Chattanooga. Easy road trip + free parking inside the park! EV Charging is also available. Where to Stay 🏨 The park’s lodge is right on the lake and fully renovated. It is modern, cozy, and super convenient. If you prefer a little more space, book one of the lakefront or landside cabins, perfect for families or a weekend with friends! The park also offers campsites for tents and RVs. Things to Do 🥾 • Waterfall Loop: Start on the Woodland Trail and connect to the Overlook Trail, you’ll cross a swinging bridge and catch stunning views of Cane Creek Falls and Rockhouse Falls along the way. • Fall Creek Falls Overlook: This is a must-see location. View one of the tallest waterfalls in the eastern U.S. with just a short walk from the parking lot. • Hike to the base of Fall Creek Falls: Only 0.4 miles each way, but don’t let the short distance fool you, it’s a steep and strenuous trail with lots of steps, but totally worth it for the view from the bottom! • Lake activities: Rent a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard and explore the calm, scenic waters. • Golf course: There’s an 18-hole course right inside the park if you want to swap your hiking boots for golf shoes. Best Time to Visit: Late spring to early fall for full waterfall flow and all activities open. Fall brings unreal colors. Our Pro Tip: Start your waterfall hikes early to beat the crowds and catch the morning mist for that magical photo glow. Ocoee River is Tennessee’s newest state park, located just one hour east of Chattanooga. Previously managed alongside Hiwassee Scenic River as Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park, the park offers access to over 17 miles of the Ocoee River. Renowned for its thrilling whitewater rapids, the park is home to America’s only - and the world’s only natural - Olympic River that was used for the canoeing and kayaking events in the 1996 Summer Olympics. We highly recommend booking a paddling trip with one of the local outfitters to experience it for yourself! Historically, the Ocoee River was the source of life for the Cherokee people who lived there. Within the park, you can visit the gravesite of Nancy Ward, a beloved woman and leader of the Cherokee people. The park is also a sanctuary for rare species like Ruth’s Golden Aster, a beautiful flowering plant that exists in only two places in the world. Surrounding the park, you’ll find hiking trails on lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service and activities like fishing, boating, and swimming at Parksville Lake. Tennessee State Parks are where it’s at ✨ SAVE FOR LATER — most people from other states know we have the Great Smoky Mountains National Park here but there is so much beauty in the smaller state parks as well 🌲 a great resource for finding TN state parks near where you live or the city you’re going to be visiting is on the @tennesseestateparks website. they have the parks listed according to the west/middle/east Tennessee regions. you can reserve cabins on their website (Tennessee residents get a discount!), as well as find trails, maps, and important info for your trip. features you can find in the Tennessee State Parks: -waterfalls (80 in total & the tallest is 256 feet!) -mountain overlooks -cool rock formations & caves -campgrounds -kayaking (check out @kayakingadventuresoftennessee!) -swimming, fishing, and boating -rock climbing, biking, and of course hiking 💙 i am so thankful for these protected natural areas and for the State Parks being willing to partner with small tour guiding businesses like mine (@experiencechattanooga) that aim to help people visit these places in the easiest way possible while giving back to the parks 🙏🏼 📣 Please remember to LEAVE NO TRACE & pack out your trash so that others can enjoy these beautiful conserved spaces for years to come! 🚮

S G T. A L V I N C. Y O R K 28/57 : May 26, 2023 1.08 mile hike on York Trail Partly cloudy and 69* Sergeant Alvin C. York State Historic Park (@sgtalvincyorkstatehistoricpark) is located in Pall Mall, TN which is approximately two hours away from both Nashville and Knoxville. It is about an hour outside of the gorgeous Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area (@bigsouthforknps). This historical Tennessee park is smaller than many other @tennesseestateparks, but it has unique features such as the replica World War I trench, a historical mill, and the visitor center which is a replica of a general store from Sgt. York’s time period. According to the Tennessee State Parks website Sgt. York was one of the most decorated soldiers in World War I. Add this park to your list if you enjoy World War history, guided tours, replica building walk-throughs, and short nature walks. This park offers all of these and makes for a perfect day outing if you’re in one of the nearby areas! Have you visited this park? 📍Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park is on the ancestral land of Cherokee, S’atsoyaha, and Shawandasse Tula peoples.
