🏔️ Satsar Lake – Kashmir Great Lakes (KGL) Trek Details
Satsar is a group of seven high-altitude alpine lakes located in the Kashmir Himalayas. The name comes from two words: “Sat” (seven) and “Sar” (lake), meaning seven lakes. It is one of the most beautiful sections of the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek.

Region: Ganderbal District, Kashmir
Mountain range: Himalayas
Trek route: Between Gadsar Lake and Gangbal Lake
Altitude: about 3,600 m (11,800 ft) above sea level
🌊 About the Lakes
A chain of 7 small glacial lakes
Fed by snowmelt and nearby glaciers
Some lakes may dry partially in late summer depending on snowfall
The water eventually drains into the Sindh River basin

On the KGL trek, Satsar usually comes after crossing Gadsar Pass.

KHI’ve done the Khaliya Top trek 3 times. Not many “easy” treks give you views like this with such little effort.
Imagine walking through green meadows with a full 360 degree Himalayan panorama 😍 Layer after layer of mountains stretching as far as your eyes can go. And the real showstopper is the Panchachuli range. Agar clear weather mil gaya to kasam se maza aa jayega 😄
Also, in the middle of the trek you can halt at the government rest house. Then start early the next morning while it’s still dark, because you want to hit the top for sunrise. The moment the first light touches the Panchachuli peaks, it’s honestly hard to explain. You just have to see it.

Encounter Summary:
The sweeping, arid expanses of the Kazakh Steppe hold a stark beauty, hiding creatures that have perfectly adapted to the harsh environment. During a morning trek, our group of researchers crouched around a fascinating cluster of small organisms resting on the sandy, scrub-lined trail. These are Carapax seminis, known to the local nomadic herders as Wandering Seed-pods. At first glance, they look exactly like dried, woody nuts or fallen desert fruits, complete with thick, segmented shells and small, leaf-like appendages, moving slowly on tiny legs.

As we pointed and observed, a local steppe bird suddenly swooped down from the overcast sky, landing directly in the middle of the cluster. Hoping for an easy meal, the bird pecked curiously at one of the smaller pods. This sudden threat triggered an astonishing defensive reaction from the largest creature in the center. The moment the bird backed away, the massive, woody shell of the central pod split open, rapidly unfurling into a striking, lotus-like blossom. Its thick petals revealed warm, earthy tones, surrounding a brilliant crown of bright yellow stamens. This sudden, explosive change in size and shape is a brilliant deimatic display, designed to startle avian predators by instantly transforming from a bite-sized seed into a massive, unappetizing desert flower.
