CGUS President Donald Trump claimed that he “knew about the Strait [of Hormuz] that it would be a weapon” and that he “predicted Osama bin Laden would knock out the World Trade Center.”
In a Washington DC press conference on Monday, Trump also claimed the US had “obliterated” Iran but repeated his call for other nations to help him keep the Strait of Hormuz “open.”
Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi has said the Strait - which handles around 20 per cent of global oil traffic - "is open to friends and non-hostile countries, but closed to enemies and those who collaborate with them."
Trump’s 2000 book ‘The America We Deserve’ contained one passing mention of Osama bin Laden - “One day we’re told that a shadowy figure with no fixed address named Osama bin-Laden is public enemy number one, and US jetfighters lay waste to his camp in Afghanistan. He escapes back under some rock, and a few news cycles later it’s on to a new enemy and new crisis.”
Elsewhere in the book, Trump predicted “we’re in danger of the sort of terrorist attacks that will make the [1993] bombing of the Trade Center look like kids playing with firecrackers. No sensible analyst rejects this possibility, and plenty of them, like me, are not wondering if but when it will happen.”

BUAt the Munich Security Conference, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala delivered a blunt message: global trade is under strain, but paralysis is a choice.
Acknowledging the challenges facing the rules-based system, she stressed that it still governs most global commerce. With much of the world fixated on the US, she posed a pointed question to the room: what are other countries doing with the power they still hold?
Her core message to Europe and middle powers was clear—the global trade system is bent, not broken. Meaningful reform is entirely possible if nations stop lamenting the crisis and step up.
Okonjo-Iweala laid out a straightforward mandate for renewed global leadership. Countries must choose action over complaints, fiercely defend what works, and actively fix the outdated policies that no longer serve the global economy.
