GO ➡️ on the playground (ready set…GO! let’s GO swing) GO ➡️ toys (GO, car! bubbles GO up!) Pro tip: Pick core words like GO, HELP, or UP. Access to robust communication is a fundamental human right. Denying individuals access to these options because they aren’t proficient yet is counterintuitive and harmful. HOW do we expect individuals to develop the skills necessary to become proficient AAC users without opportunities to practice and learn? I’ve often heard the argument that a student “isn’t ready” for more robust AAC options and that we can “try again later” when they don’t show immediate proficiency. Expecting a student to magically gain proficiency in a year- without having access to a device to practice on or consistent modeling of AAC- is misguided, harmful, and unethical. If I let you try to play the guitar, and when you weren’t immediately proficient, told you that we could wait a year and try again… without a guitar to practice on and no one teaching you how to play the guitar, how likely would it be that you would improve at all let alone be proficient the next time I handed you a guitar? #justslpthings #aacslp #aacdevice #augmentativealternativecommunication #augmentativeandalternativecommunication #touchchat #aaclearner #aacuser #aacimplementation

Things to remember: 💗AACs are for everyone who needs help to communicate & not just for non verbal children. 💗Start by using a few words & phrases consistently in a situation & gradually keep adding more words. (Just like verbal speech) 💗Model, model & MODEL! No expectations but you just model communication with AVAZ. 💗Be patient. Also you MUST explore the app and be familiar with it so that you don’t fumble and look around. .
