This is not just a floating effect — this is storytelling through motion. What you’re watching is a before vs after breakdown of how a simple hand wave turned into a cinematic floating moment inside After Effects. The concept was simple: slide through music like a Spotify carousel, lock the vibe, jump… and let gravity disappear. To make this floating effect feel real, I first 3D tracked the entire footage using the 3D Camera Tracker. This step helped me rebuild the environment in 3D space so the camera movement and depth feel natural. After that, I rotoscoped the subject frame by frame to perfectly separate the body from the background. Once the roto was clean, I placed the subject back into the tracked 3D environment — this is what sells the floating illusion and makes it feel grounded instead of fake. The floating motion was created using controlled position animation with smooth easing and timing — no random keyframes. For the cinematic look, I used Lumetri Color for color grading, Deep Glow to add energy and impact, and Edge Detect to subtly define the subject during the transition. The Spotify-style music carousel wasn’t a template. It was fully created from scratch, and honestly, it took the most time. Every element — spacing, scale, depth, and motion — was designed to feel interactive, just like a real music selection UI. These details are what turn a simple effect into a full visual experience. This reel is not a full tutorial — it’s a workflow reveal showing the effort, layers, and timeline behind one clean shot. Step 2- duplicate the rotoscoped layer and scale it up a bit and then drag the paper texture below it and change the track matte to alpha matte. Step 3- Now add Posterize and tint effect into the top roto layer and adjust the settings as per given in the tutorial. Step 4- Now drag and drop the another paper texture above the main comp and change the blending mode to screen. Step 5- Add lumetri and noise effect in the main comp and adjust the settings as per tutorial. Step 6- Now select all the layers and precomp it and then add posterize time effect and play with the settings. Now you have your Paper cut-out effect Ready! Hope you enjoyed the tutorial.
