CNAmazon’s biggest AI data center is now operational in Indiana, with half a million AWS Trainium 2 chips entirely devoted to powering OpenAI rival Anthropic.
Just over a year ago, it was nothing but cornfields. Once complete, 30 buildings will consume 2.2 gigawatts of power there. CNBC talked to AWS CEO Matt Garman about the project, and went to New Carlisle, Indiana, to ask locals about the impact — and for a first ever on-camera tour inside the largest cluster of non-Nvidia chips in the world.

TOYesterday I visited one of the biggest data centers in Europe! 🌍
Microsoft’s Dublin data center powers cloud services and AI services for businesses, governments and organisations across Ireland, the UK and much of Northern Europe.
Hyperscale data centers like this one can host tens of thousands, and sometimes even hundreds of thousands of servers!
What I found insane wasn’t actually the number of servers, it was the huge amount of infrastructure (power, cooling, etc) that helps to keep this data center running.
