A co-founder of the OG collector meetup @redbarcrew, Lamdin went on to found @analogshift, the vintage and pre-owned dealer acquired by @watchesofswitzerland_official, also the parent company of Hodinkee, in 2020.
In a conversation recorded live in front of an audience at UBS House of Craft in New York City in October, Lamdin speaks with @ahoffez breaks down the vintage and pre-owned watch market, how we got here, where we’ve been, and where we’re likely going. He’s also gives plenty of useful insight on what it means for a second-hand watch to be truly authenticated and how collector’s need to stay curious to get the most out of their watch collecting journey. ANSIXTY SECONDS with the Movado M95 Sub-Sea 'Panda' Chronograph
Dating to circa the 1960s, this Sub-Sea Chronograph is an absolute gem of a mid-century chronograph to rival the best. With a 35mm stainless steel case by François Borgel — better knows for manufacturing cases for Patek Philippe (who, by the way, used Borgel cases on their waterproof chronographs at the same time) — it features lovely faceted lugs with a signed crown, a desirable white 'panda' dial with black sub registers and applied indices, and Movado's Calibre M95 manual winding chronograph movement inside.
No doubt a stunner of a piece, the Sub-Sea range is functional and packs some serious horological chops. These have slipped under the radar of most collectors, and examples with a sharp, defined case with thick lugs and a clean dial dont pop up as often as you might think, and we're always happy to have one come through.

ANThis watch belongs in a museum.
Ever wonder why IWC makes such oversized tool watches? Well, here we have (at least part of) the answer: The Ref. 325 Portugieser.
Developed to satisfy the request of two Portuguese merchants who desired an oversized, highly accurate wristwatch, the 325 paired one of the International Watch Company's pocket watch movements (initially the Calibre 74) with an oversized 42mm Staybrite steel wristwatch case ("Mod. 228") produced by Biel-based Wyss & Cie. Corrosion- and scratch-resistant — though not waterproof — it merged the pocket- and wristwatch worlds in a defiantly large package some 50 years before such a thing was trendy.
Well under 1,000 pieces were produced across several references between 1931 and 1981, making original Portugieser watches incredibly rare and highly desirable. This particular example from 1943 is a thing of true tool-watch beauty: Measuring 42mm in the famous Mod. 228 Staybrite steel case with a satin caseband, a satin bezel, a snap-on caseback, polished 'holey' lugs, an easy-winding 'turbine crown, and an acrylic crystal, it features a heavily patinated black luminous dial that has taken on the aspect of the night sky — complete with hundreds of tiny stars.

ANSIXTY SECONDS with the Seiko Chronograph 'True Cevert'
While there are several notable 6139 variants, two of the most famous are those worn by Colonel William Pogue in the Skylab 4 mission and — though never on-screen — by Bruce Lee. The watch we have here lies somewhere in between those two references: Though it’s a monochromatic blue rather than the yellow, red, and blue ‘Pogue’ or the monochromatic black ‘Bruce Lee,’ it’s nonetheless extremely handsome, with a 1970s ‘funk’ quotient all its own!
This particular watch, housed in a 41mm stainless steel case with a smooth bezel, dual chronograph pushers, a captive crown, and an acrylic crystal, features a blue dark dial with a matching pepsi tachymeter scale, a matching blue 30-minute totalizer above 6 o’clock, a day-date display at 3 o’clock, white hour indices, and a lumed ‘sword’ handset with orange chronograph hands. Powered by the automatic Seiko 6139 movement, it comes paired to an awesome stainless steel multi-link bracelet with a signed flip-lock clasp.
The nickname, 'True Cevert,' resides from this particular model's connection with Formula 1 racing legend, Francois Cevert. The 'True' portion of the name refers to the particular Reference Cevert likely wore — a 6139-6009 — confirmed by dated photos of Cevert wearing the watch. There were a handful of dial variations made within a short period of time, and thanks to the deep research by Seiko enthusiasts, the main hallmarks of a 'True Cevert' are a simple line of text at 9 o'clock and a notch located near the crown, like the piece we have presented here.
A superb watch for daily wear, the Ref.6139 is an important piece of horological history as well as a funky 1970s time capsule. Once you try it on, we know you'll love it as much as we do!
