SUI first found out about Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) a few years ago when preparing students for the American Mathematics Competition (AMC). AoPS had all the previous years’ exams with answer keys so it was a huge life saver for me (and the students) at the time.
I think it‘s currently the best place to look at for advanced math options. You can check out their online courses as well as their books!
While their books are not cheap, I think it’s worth it because I have yet to come across sets of books designed for advanced students appropriate for their age. In other words, college level books shouldn’t be the only option for advanced 9th graders. They should have something written for them!
To get to the books, search ’Art of Problem Solving‘ and go to their ’Bookstore‘. Below are how I would match the books with each school subject.
Middle School - Introduction to Algebra
Geometry - Introduction to Geometry
Algebra 2 - Intermediate Algebra
Precalculus - Precalculus
Calculus - Calculus

제가 예전에 미국 수학 경시대회 (AMC) 준비하는 학생들 몇명을 과외한적이 있어요. 그 때 처음 Art of Problem Solving (AoPS)를 알게됐죠. AoPS가 모든 기출 문제들을 답지 포함해서 업로드 해놨어서 당시 저한테, 그리고 학생들한테도, 정말 큰 도움이 됐던 기억이 나네요.
인터넷에 ”Math for Gifted Students“ 이렇게 보면 딱히 이 학생들만 위한 사이트는 없다는걸 금방 볼 수 있을거예요. 그래서 현재로서는 AoPS가 좀 더 어려운 수학을 즐기는 학생을 위해 자료찾기엔 가장 좋은 사이트 같아요. 온라인 코스와 교재 모든게 있습니다!
교재가 저렴한건 아니지만 확실히 가치는 있다고 봐요. 제가 여기 말고는 advance한 아이를 위해 맞춰진 교재를 이렇게 세트로 엮어서 내는 곳은 아직 본 적이 없거든요. 그러니까 제 말은 어려운 문제들이야 찾을래야 찾을 순 있겠죠. 하지만 advanced한 10학년 학생이 다른 자료가 없어서 대학 교재를 보는 것보다 그래도 자신의 나이대에 맞게 만들어진 교재가 훨씬 낫잖아요?
교재를 찾으려면 ’Art of Problem Solving‘을 검색하시고 AoPS 웹사이트에서 오른쪽 상단에 ’Bookstore‘로 들어가세요. 아래 제가 각 교과 과정과 맞는 교재를 매칭해놨습니다.
