More holiday inspo for you from our visit to Arran earlier this month.. this a new entry for us as we haven't had the chance to visit them when they opened last year, but it most definitely won't be the last time enjoying some delicious food from the Shack @theshackarran .. all we are going to say it's: the Shack Club Sandwich and as Niki said: "THIS CLUB SANDWICH WAS EVERYTHING!"
A great addition to the wonderful food scene on Arran, the Shack is a Seafood Trailer that operated three days per week in different locations: on Wednesdays at Lamlash, on Thursdays at Brodick and on Fridays at Blackwaterfoot, where we had the chance to visit them.
We tried hands down two of the most delicious sandwiches we've ever had..
The Shack Club Sandwich with Sea Bream fillets, Tartare sauce, Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese and Pancetta on Blackwater Bakehouse @blackwaterbakehouse (of course) Sourdough... it was so messy but so damn delicious that if we weren't that full we would have eaten one more on the spot!
The 1/2 Lobster Roll with 1/2 (yes half!) Scottish Lobster, Iceberg, Watercress, Bloody Mary Cocktail sauce and Lemon. It was light and refreshing, the ideal treat on the beach. 😁

SCNo visit to the Isle of Arran is complete without seeing the incredible Machrie Moor Stones.
Don't be fooled into thinking it's just these 3 iconic, sandstone monoliths though. The remains of six stone circles have been uncovered on the moor, in a landscape dotted with burial cists and hut circles.
Some had been completely swallowed up by layers of peat, so who knows how many more are out there waiting to be found.
It's clear that this whole area of Arran was sacred for a very long time. 6500 years ago, there were simple timber circles here. Between 5500 and 3500 those wooden posts were replaced with the stones we find today.
The enormous red sandstone pillars were originally part of circles and stand between 4 and 5 metres tall. One of the fallen pillars lies on the ground in pieces after somebody tried to carve it into a millstone.
Whoever did it got pretty far along, even creating the central hole, but something stopped them. It might have been their conscience, but then maybe the fairies of Arran had something to say about it.
One story claims that these fairies were responsible for creating the stone circles. They would sit on the hills surrounding the moor, throwing or flicking boulders down in competition with each other.
Judging by the size of these rocks, they must have pretty strong fairies on Arran. I wonder if whoever started defacing that standing stone found out just how strong for themselves...

GLWhat’s your favourite thing to do here?📍 Isle of Arran. We had a lovely walk along the main town next to the ferry port. If you walk a out and to the right all the places we went to are about a 10-15 walk and pretty much next to each other. Would probably bring the car next time if I was here for the day.

⏰ Time: 4.5-6 hours
📏 Distance: 6.5mi / 10.5km
↗️ Ascent: 2,710ft / 830m
Goat Fell is the highest point on the Isle of Arran – and while it didn't quite make it as a Munro at 874m / 2,867ft, its summit is still a pretty perfect panoramic viewpoint to gaze across the island and out to sea.
The track starts behind the Wineport Bistro, heading uphill between the leather shop and Arran Brewery.
If you're taking on this Corbett, extra caution is needed on the last two hundred metres of the climb as the terrain is steep, rocky and often covered in clouds.
Goat Fell shouldn't be underestimated just because it isn't a Munro – before heading out into the hills, check the mountain forecast; make sure you have good equipment including food, water, a torch, compass and safety kit; and learn how to properly navigate using a map and compass.
If visiting when under ice and snow, do not attempt to summit unless you’re fully equipped and familiar with using crampons and an ice axe.

Goatfell is the highest peak on the Isle of Arran and I believe Cìr Mhòr is the fourth or fifth highest. Both are nice hikes but the rock formations of Cìr Mhor are just something else and it’s so rewarding when you reach the summit.
