⚠️ Burpees are a WASTE OF TIME! At least, if you do them like how 99% opt to do them, which is when you just “go down, go out, and come up” without any INTENTION! The intention comes down to THE FEET! If your feet are close together, the only way you can get down is to lazily round your back as you place your hands down… and it’s the same scenario when you come up! To really get the calorie burning, effective cardio benefits of the burpee, you gotta have your feet WIDE! Wide feet allows you to SQUAT in and out of the burpee, which keeps your spine in a neutral position while helping you build athleticism! It’s such a small change, but turns the burpees to one of the most ineffective exercises into one of the best cardio moves you can do! Widen your feet! Thank me later! The first version isn’t wrong — it’s just elite pace / ego burpees. Jumping both feet in and out spikes your heart rate fast and works only if the volume is low or you’re very conditioned. Stepping one foot at a time keeps your breathing under control and lets you stay moving for longer. Same as running: You wouldn’t run a 5 km at your 1 km pace. Burpees are no different — pace them to finish strong.

Stop doing burpees ‼️ Burpees are a back breaker. Will you please stop doing them? Let me show you something way better. For younger people, burpees are generally okay, but if you’re over 40 like me, burpees are going to tear your back up. Split it into two moves. Number 1 is a mountain climber. Get into a high plank position, take your knees underneath your hips, and go until you get tired. Exercise number 2 is a simple squat jump. Take a half squat, reach up, land softly toe to heel, and do that until you get tired. If you do those 2 moves instead of that dumb backbreaker burpee, you’re not going to hurt your spine. You’ll get your cardiovascular fitness up, and most importantly, you’ll get better, not older. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Questions?
