GEYou’ve bought or made this stunning cake and now it’s time to cut it…but HOW?! There’s a few simple rules to follow in order to get the most out of your cake in the cleanest way possible!
🌸 It’s always easier to cut a cold cake
🌸 Remove the decorations from the cake before cutting and serve separately (easier than cutting through them)
🌸 Cut the cake in strips and use a chopping board to divide into smaller pieces
🌸 Clean the knife in between cuttings (which I failed to do so here 😂)
Something to remember - cakes go a long way so start off my cutting up to half the cake and then using buttercream or clingfilm to seal the open end to stop it from drying out

Here is OCD’s step-by-step tutorial on how to cut a 15 cm (6-inch), 4-layer cake to achieve the maximum number of slices, while maintaining neat, even pieces.
This method is useful for parties, weddings, or events where you want to maximize servings.
Tools Needed:
* Long sharp knife
* Hot water & towel (for cleaning knife between cuts)
* Cake board
* Ruler or cake divider (optional but helpful)
STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL
Step 1: Chill the Cake Slightly
Place the cake in the fridge for 15–20 minutes. This firms up the layers and makes clean cuts easier, especially for a 4-layer cake.
Step 2: Mark the Top
Use a ruler or the back of your knife to lightly score the top of the cake to mark equal sections.
* Goal: 4 slices for a 15 cm cake
* You can cut:
* 28 slices for larger portions (ideal for tall cakes)
* 32 slices for smaller party-size servings
Step 3: Vertical Cut Technique
1. Cut straight down to get 4 slices
2. Cut each slices down in half, then into 8 pieces
3. This technique creates 32 slices.
Keep your knife clean by dipping it in hot water and wiping between cuts — this helps especially with soft frosting or multiple layers.

BAWatch me slice up my bestselling size cake - a 4inch bento. Goes further than you think. These are 2layers with buttercream and a filling. No one layer of sponge cakes here 🫣 I cut this straight from the fridge but I’d suggest letting the cake come to room temperature before eating 💕
If you want to get the most out of your cakes then this is how I recommend cutting them. You can of course cut in traditional wedges (you’d get about 6), or just eat it by yourself 🫶
