I'd appreciate a like/follow if you enjoyed the content! So this is the head that I'll be using for my Legio Custodes Shield-Captain! I'm getting back into the swing of things with painting the gold. I left this one a little more pale than I usually would, but I figured that there should be some difference between my Custodes models! I also went with red instead of my usual purple. I really like the purple Aquilan Shield scheme, but I'll probably save that for 40K and go with red for my Horus Heresy models. Who knows, there's still time to decide between everything. Anyway, happy #wipwednesday everyone! Here’s a breakdown of how I paint grimdark gold armor for my Auric Hunters—specifically on this Vertus Praetor: I start with black primer, then build the base with Pro Acryl Dark Bronze through the airbrush. From there, I work into a zenithal highlight using Pro Acryl Bronze, and finish the airbrushing with a focused pass of Rich Gold on the highest points for that subtle glow. Next, I drybrush Pro Acryl White Gold across the filigree and edges for definition and depth. The eagle on the jetbike gets its love: basecoated with Darkstar Aged Copper, then glazed with Molten Copper towards the tips of each feather for warmth and contrast. Once all the basework is done, I apply a black oil wash over the whole model and let it sit for 15 minutes. After that, I knock it back with a sponge lightly dampened with mineral spirits—this gives the model a naturally worn, shadowed look. Once the wash is fully dry, I hit the edges again with a very light drybrush of White Gold for final highlights. Simple steps, strong payoff.
