How to do a proper squat! 👇🏼 Set Up: Begin standing with feet shoulder width, toes slightly out to the side and weight in your heels. Movement: Keeping your weight in your heels and using your hands in front of you as a counterbalance, lead down and back with your hips, then stand upward, squeezing your glutes and pushing your hips towards the wall, then come back down in the squat position. Benefit: This is a great movement for the glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves and an overall phenomenal power movement for the lower body. Here’s how to fix it: • Grab a small weight or kettlebell and hold it out in front of you as you squat down. The weight acts as a counterbalance, helping you stay stable while your ankles adapt. • Keep your feet flat on the ground, chest tall, and knees tracking over your toes. • Spend time in the bottom position, taking deep breaths to help your nervous system relax into the new range. Research shows that limited ankle dorsiflexion is one of the main reasons people struggle with deep squats. The good news is, it’s trainable. Use this counterbalance method daily, and you’ll be able to sit comfortably in your deep resting squat over time.
