At @dgathreads , we met Pino, a quiet maker with a deep love for craft. Vintage kimono, exquisite textiles, and techniques you rarely come across in Singapore. He’s closing his shop by October, and it’s heartbreaking to see him having to clear out a lifetime of work. DGA Threads, a fashion brand by Italian art collector Giuseppe De Giosa, re-purposes vintage Japanese textiles from his own collection, turning beautiful silk garments like Japanese haori and kimonos into contemporary, wearable pieces for everyday life. . Looking at the unique designs and feeling the different textures of their pieces are really quite an experience. The Haori I chose, felt just right. I must admit I loved every piece I tried & i still think about them too, but this piece in particular somehow stood out differently to me. I got this from their giveaway, but I couldn’t help getting some of the other stuffs, I love my new jute bag so much & my new scrunchies & the fish pouch is such a great present ❤️ What an experience, so I know I just had to share this with everyone. Every piece is crafted with such amazing style, comfort, and versatility that you’ll feel like a fashion icon. The genius behind this incredible brand is Mr. Giuseppe (Pino) De Giosa, who switched gears from a 40-year banking career to founding DGA Threads in 2016. 👗 Trying on their unique garments was an absolute blast! I got to wear a variety of “Haori”—traditional Japanese jackets that don’t overlap at the front. Originally a chic accessory for geishas in the Meiji era, Haori evolved into a fashion staple for women during the Showa era. These beauties come in all sorts of fabrics and designs, with stunning dyeing techniques like yuzen and shibori. 🌸👘 After trying on several Haori, I finally fell in love with the Yellow Plum Blossom one! This vintage piece, crafted using the shibori technique, features the Plum Blossom (Ume), a symbol of resilience and beauty. The intricate patterns created by folding, twisting, and binding the fabric before dying are simply breathtaking.
