What you need to know about IG new map feature and how to use it safely. 🗺️ 👀 HOW TO TURN YOUR LOCATION SHARING OFF: 1. Access the Map: Open the Instagram app, go to your Direct Messages (DM) inbox, and tap the map icon at the top.  2. Open Settings: Tap the gear icon (or settings icon) on the map.  3. Choose Location Sharing Options: You can choose to share your location with “No one”, “Friends”, “Close Friends”, or select specific individuals. Only share your location with close trusted friends & family. 4. Confirm: Tap “Done” or “Share” to save your changes. 
 ‼️IMPORTANT TO KNOW: • If you use location sharing, your location is updated whenever you open the app or return to the app if it’s been running in the background. You can turn off location sharing at any time. • You can choose to not share location in specific places or with specific people. (DO NOT share the location of your home or places you visit regularly). HOW TO TURN OFF SPECIFIC LOCATIONS: 1. Tap Messages in the top right of Feed. 2. Tap Map at the top of your inbox. 3. Tap Settings in the top right. 4. Tap Options in the top right, then tap Hide places. From here, you can: Add a hidden place. Tap Add in the top right, drag the pin around the map to set a location for your hidden place, decide how large of an area you want to hide, then tap Next in the top right. Enter a name for your place and tap Done in the top right to save your hidden place. •Update or delete an existing hidden place: Tap an existing hidden place to update its location, radius or place name, or delete the place. ⚠️ I never share my location in real time. This includes posting pics or stories with identifying spots, and now this new map feature. If you use it, use with caution. #safetytips #safety #virtualsafety #onlinesafety #maps #igmaps
