KOA woman and her dog fell into the Carbon River on Sunday afternoon and were swept away by the water, prompting a multi-agency search effort that rapidly escalated.
On Monday morning, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said the search effort had transitioned to a recovery mission for the woman's body.
The PCSO reported that the 28-year-old woman, identified by her family as Zuleika Witron, was walking with her girlfriend and two dogs at the Fairfax Bridge near the town of Carbonado when she and one animal fell into the river.
They were quickly carried away by the current.
The PCSO said the victim's girlfriend had to walk 10 to 15 minutes away from the scene to get phone service to call for help.
By the time she returned, both Zuleika and her dog were gone.
A drone located the dog alive approximately two miles from where they fell, but Zuleika was not found.

NS#NSTTV A seven-year-old autistic boy who was reported missing from Taman Tunku Tabor yesterday evening was found drowned in Sungai Kedah today.
Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the victim, Firash Daniel Muhammad Hafeez Ansle, was discovered on the riverbank about 100m from his home.
She said a police report about the child's disappearance in the Mergong area was received at 5.40pm yesterday.
