Here are 3 secrets that make handwriting click faster… 1️⃣ Start with confidence, not perfection. 5 year olds need to feel successful before they feel corrected. Celebrate effort and progress first… the neatness comes with time and practice. 2️⃣ Make writing part of real life, not just worksheets. Let them label pictures, write silly jokes, sign their names on cards, or leave notes for their friends. When writing feels meaningful, kids are much more motivated to practice. 💛 3️⃣ GIVE THEM THE TOOLS TO SUCCEED!!!! Young writers need to see exactly where letters belong. We’re focusing on: u, d, b, p, r, g, q, j These letters require students to shift from curve ➡️ straight (or vice versa), which is a big coordination skill in early writing. Since there are so many of these letters, I wouldn’t recommend teaching them all at once. These letters are: A, M, N, & K These letters require students to use both straight and diagonal lines and involve switching directions of diagonals. This can be very tricky which is why I save these letters for last.
