ORYesterday, thousands of parishioners from across the American West converged on Phoenix, Arizona in anticipation of the Metropolis of San Francisco’s 49th Annual Greek Orthodox Folk Dance and Choral Festival (FDF).
This year’s theme is “SHINE,” representing the sun as a common thread between Arizona and Greece. The theme also signifies how FDF participants reflect the light of Christ by celebrating their shared faith and culture.
“You are letting your light shine … by realizing that each and every one of you is a reflection of one another,” said His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America at the event’s opening. “The hard work that you put in, in order to be here and to represent your communities, is a shared enterprise.”

EXThis past weekend, 81 dance groups made up of thousands of Greeks and their families got together for the 48th annual Folk Dance Festival (FDF) in Anaheim, California. The directors and dancers work hard for months perfecting a traditional dance and/or choral suite from specific regions and villages in Greece, and then put on a competitive exhibition for everyone to see. Being amongst the first generation to have participated in this event, and now having kids in it, is truly humbling. It makes me emotional every time I see my kids perform, whether they place or not. And seeing friend from other cities that I met at this event over 30 year ago now. Congratulations to everyone involved, including the @yourfdf management team. Another amazing and memorable year. See you all in 2025! 👌🇬🇷
