India's GaN semiconductor future is looking bright. Bengaluru-based AGNIT Semiconductors has raised $2.6M in an extended seed round led by Shastra VC. This funding supports AGNIT Semiconductors in scaling production of GaN semiconductors, Gallium nitride semiconductors, and Gallium nitride components tailored for RF and power applications. Founded in 2019 and operational since 2021, AGNIT Semiconductors benefits from more than a dozen licensed patents from IISc along with access to advanced infrastructure at the institution. The company is advancing through pilots of three RF products designed for Indian defence clients, targeting initial commercial shipments in July 2027. With this recent investment, AGNIT Semiconductors aims to reach an output of 100,000 GaN semiconductors, Gallium nitride semiconductors, and Gallium nitride components over the next two years, which is a meaningful milestone in early-stage commercialisation for the sector. A central pillar of this progress is GEECI, or the Gallium Nitride Ecosystem Enabling Centre and Incubator at IISc Bengaluru.
