LOIn June 2023, OceanGate’s Titan submersible tragically imploded during a descent to the Titanic wreckage, resulting in the loss of all five individuals aboard, including CEO Stockton Rush. The incident occurred approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes into the dive, and subsequent analysis indicated a catastrophic hull failure due to immense underwater pressure.  
Investigations revealed that OceanGate had bypassed standard safety protocols. The Titan was constructed using carbon fiber and titanium, materials that experts warned could degrade under repeated stress. Notably, the submersible lacked certification from recognized maritime safety organizations. Former employees had raised concerns about the vessel’s integrity, but these warnings were reportedly dismissed.   
The disaster prompted widespread scrutiny of deep-sea exploration practices and highlighted the dangers of prioritizing innovation over safety. OceanGate has since suspended its operations, and regulatory bodies are considering stricter oversight to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
