EPDid you know how ceramic insulators for railway overhead lines start as soft clay before they ever become rock hard? 🚆⚙️
On this line, a blue robot places a round, still soft ceramic piece onto a spinning table. As it turns, a cutting tool trims the outside so the part becomes perfectly round. Then shaped circular blades move in and carve the typical insulator profile with its rings and grooves. After that, a wire cuts the top and bottom cleanly so the form is neat and precise. What you see falling onto the green conveyor is not a finished insulator, but likely waste or a rejected green-body part that can be recycled back into the ceramic process. The good parts would normally continue to drying and firing, because only after burning in the kiln does the ceramic become strong, weather resistant and ready to insulate high voltage safely above the tracks. 🏭✨

GAOver the past two weeks, Georgia Power worked with the City of Dunwoody to update transmission line insulators in our Dunwoody service area. Our engineers took advantage of an existing outage where the Protection and Control Field Services team was upgrading relaying, to replace insulators on our Transmission Lines. But where does the helicopter come in? 🚁
Using a helicopter and aerial linemen increased the efficiency of this project, reduced completion time, and minimized potential impacts to customer property. ⚡️💡
