A SOC (Security Operations Center) analyst is the person
watching your company's systems 24/7 detecting attacks,
investigating alerts, and stopping threats before they cause damage.
Their primary weapon? The Linux terminal.
Linux powers most servers, firewalls, and security tools
in enterprise environments. If something is compromised,
the evidence is almost always in a Linux log or process.
These 7 commands are the foundation of daily triage:
grep -> hunt for attack patterns inside log files
ss -> see every open port and who owns it
ps aux -> catch suspicious or high-CPU processes
find -> locate files dropped by an attacker
lsof -> map active network connections to processes
journalctl -> stream real-time SSH session logs
awk -> parse and rank HTTP error codes by frequency
